At the beginning of last week, head of Ukrainian center for release of POWs Vladimir Ruban transported 22 year old Ukrainian soldier Yuriy Smirnov. Smirnov was transported from Donetsk to Dnepropetrovsk. Donetsk People’s Republic released young man without any conditions, not asking for anyone in return.

Lieutenant of 55th artillery brigade based in Zaporozhie was captured by Donetsk self-defense forces while Ukrainian army tried to attack the city. However, when members of the DPR government later learn that Smirnov’s grandfather received medal of a hero of the Soviet Union for military merit (similar to US medal of honor), DPR government decided to release Smirnov out of respect for his grandfather.
