Today, November 29, 2015 the city of Mariupol and its region holds local elections. Originally they were suppose to be held on October 25, 2015, however, out of fear that anti-Kiev regime politicians would win, elections were cancelled.
Kiev poured into the city over a thousand of police and para-military personnel to patrol the streets. In addition, according to sources there are 30 rapid response teams in Mariupol. According to officials voter turnout is very low. Kiev appointed head of the city administration Zhebrivskiy said that as of around noon voter turnout was only 1%. Zhebrivskiy had hoped that by this time turnout would be around 30%.
Still, anti-Kiev sentiment among those who did come to vote is very high. In Krivoy Rog for example anti-Kiev candidate Yuri Vilkul has been elected to be a mayor of the town.
