Lugansk People’s Republic was fully dependent on Ukrainian electricity. Ever since Kiev sent its military to Lugansk to force local population into submission to new regime, electricity flow to the area became very unreliable with frequent and long outages with multiple damaged high voltage lines. Even during ceasefire electricians were frequently shot at by Ukrainian army while trying to fix electricity lines.  Unwilling to put up with Kiev’s aggression Lugansk announced its independence and to ensure smooth and reliable flow of electricity Luganks turned to Russia.
